Mr. Omid Jahannezhadian, Director General of the Grain Department in Khuzestan Province, says Iran’s main wheat-producing region is on track to set a new national procurement record despite heavy rainfall and wartime conditions. According to him, 112 procurement centers have been activated across the province, enabling large-scale wheat collection and redistribution to other regions in need.
Mr. Jahannezhadian described this year’s wheat quality as “very strong” and said favorable weather conditions could push total procurement beyond Khuzestan’s previous record of 1.7 million tons. He stressed that timely government payments to farmers remain essential for maintaining agricultural production and safeguarding Iran’s food security.
He also criticized Iran’s newly introduced multi-tier wheat pricing system, warning that different price levels encourage corruption, black-market diversion, and inefficiencies in the bread supply chain.
Jahannezhadian argued that a unified pricing system combined with direct subsidies to consumers would improve wheat quality, reduce bread waste, and create a more transparent agricultural economy.
