Khuzestan: Iran’s Key Wheat Supply and Distribution Hub with 1.44 Million Tons Procured

Khuzestan has retained its position as Iran’s leading province in guaranteed wheat procurement, purchasing 1.44 million tons of wheat from farmers during the 2025–26 agricultural year.

 

The value of the procurement has been reported at more than IRR 680 trillion, with the province maintaining the country’s top position for more than a decade. This highlights Khuzestan’s strategic role in Iran’s wheat supply and food security.

Beyond meeting domestic demand, more than 700,000 tons of Khuzestan wheat have been shipped to 20 other provinces. More than 600,000 tons of these shipments were transported by road, while over 100,000 tons were moved by rail, making Khuzestan an important distribution hub within Iran’s domestic wheat network.

According to laboratory assessments and data from the Grain Research Institute of Iran’s Government Trading Corporation, wheat produced in Khuzestan remains among the highest-quality wheat in the country. Flour mills in the province also largely meet their requirements with high-quality locally produced wheat.

Khuzestan also has approximately 1.6 million tons of standard wheat storage capacity across government-owned silos, private facilities and flour mills. Its combination of large-scale production, storage infrastructure and road and rail networks enables the province to meet local demand while supplying wheat to other parts of Iran.
