From Wheat Challenges to Export Opportunities; Iran’s Pasta Industry on the Path to Global Competition
Mr. Reza Javaherforoush, Chairman of NC Macaron

Iran’s pasta industry is currently at a point where rising production costs, raw material volatility, and shifting trade policies are intensifying competition in both domestic and regional markets, while also opening new opportunities in export destinations.
In this environment, exports have become one of the key growth drivers of the industry, with stakeholders emphasizing that stable trade policies are essential for building a sustainable presence in regional markets.
Wheat remains the most critical challenge for the sector, as price fluctuations directly impact production costs and complicate planning. While part of the pressure has been absorbed through efficiency improvements, long-term stability requires a better balance between production costs and pricing mechanisms.
At the same time, NC Macaron—one of the established players in Iran’s food industry and the largest producer of vermicelli (reshteh ash) in the Middle East—is actively reshaping and strengthening its market position. By expanding its portfolio into pasta, spaghetti, and other grain-based products, and focusing on quality improvement and product diversification, the company aims to strengthen its presence in both domestic and export markets.
