Snapback Mechanism and Food Resilience: Iran’s Urgent Preparation
Seyed Mohammad Mortezavi, head of the IranGrain Conference

In light of the renewed threat of the “snapback mechanism,” Iran faces urgent challenges in securing its food supply. Seyed Mohammad Mortezavi, head of the IranGrain Conference, emphasized that the key issue is not just potential sanctions, but Iran’s preparedness and timely, smart response.
Over the next 4–5 months, Iran must import approximately 15–16 million tons of grains—including wheat, corn, and barley—to ensure domestic supply and strengthen strategic reserves by the end of January. While the government claims adequate readiness, the private sector views it differently, stressing the need for swift, coordinated action and leveraging reliable trading partners like Russia and Brazil to secure essential commodities.
