Iranian standards for pesticide residues are largely aligned with Codex, but EU standards are more stringent and EU MRLs are usually set lower than Codex and Iranian standards. Accordingly, a shipment that is acceptable under Iranian standards does not necessarily meet EU requirements.

Legumes and nuts are highly diverse in terms of product type, origin, pesticide use patterns, and storage conditions, and developing comprehensive mandatory standards for such a diverse group requires defining multiple and complex permissible limits, the uniform implementation of which at the country’s entry points will be accompanied by serious practical challenges
