Amirabad Port’s 570,000-Ton Capacity: A Strategic Hub for Grain Imports and Risk Management in Essential Commodities Trade

Mr. Mohammadali Mousapour, Director General of Amirabad Ports and Maritime Affairs

Currently, through the efforts of the private sector, appropriate infrastructure has been created in Amirabad Port for storing grains and basic goods. Considering the capacity of 409,000 tons in silos and 161,000 tons in warehouses built by the public and private sectors, the total capacity of Amirabad Port is over 570,000 tons in static terms, which seems appropriate for importing all kinds of grains and Livetock feed inputs.

Also, since the beginning of this year, over 3 million tons of grains and Livetock feed inputs have been imported to the port and supplied to the consumer market, which is a 10 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Amirabad Port is considered the country’s first third-generation port. In line with the growth and development of its infrastructure, marine equipment, especially loading and unloading equipment, has also grown, and the required equipment has been provided by a private sector operator.

It is worth mentioning that the cruel sanctions imposed by the United States and Europe against our country in the maritime and port sectors have presented numerous challenges in the provision of support parts and maintenance of equipment, and suppliers and operators are struggling with many problems, including increased costs, waste of time, and delays. Of course, despite these issues, all port equipment is currently ready for operation, and the port is loaded and unloaded in three shifts. In the event of equipment failure and the need for service, the loading and unloading operator or the private sector that owns the equipment makes the necessary repairs inside the port, and then the repaired equipment is put back into operation.
