Amirabad Port; Iran’s emerging transit and maritime trade hub in the North-South Corridor

Director General of Amirabad Port said Amirabad Port — the only northern Iranian port directly connected to the national railway network — has become one of the country’s most strategic maritime trade hubs, playing a key role in Iran’s maritime-driven economic development.

He noted that major government investments in port infrastructure have significantly expanded the port’s export, import, and transit capacities.

Highlighting Amirabad’s geo-economic importance within the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Mousapour said the port’s multimodal transport infrastructure and direct access to CIS markets have strengthened Iran’s regional trade competitiveness. He added that Caspian Sea countries can also utilize Amirabad’s facilities for cargo transit and exports to the Persian Gulf region.

Mr. Mousapour further stated that Amirabad is now Iran’s second-largest port for essential commodity imports, handling more than half of all essential goods unloaded at northern Iranian ports. He emphasized that growing private-sector investment in logistics, storage, and value-added industries around the port is contributing to sustainable job creation and long-term economic growth
