Afrashtehpour: Without Iranian shipping, grain transportation collapses in crisis
Amirhossein Afrashtehpour, Vice President of Commerce, Afra Holding

Following the Israeli invasion of Iran, Iran’s grain supply chain faced serious problems. The halting of foreign ships in international waters, crew strikes, and avoidance of entry to southern ports created major challenges that revealed the severe weakness of dependence on foreign shipping. This crisis proved that Iran must invest in its domestic bulk carrier fleet and that the development of national shipping is no longer an option but a vital necessity.
He explained that restrictions on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz had grounded ships and slowed grain supplies, and international shipping companies were refusing to enter Iranian waters under the pretext of force majeure. This situation was a major warning that without a domestic fleet, Iran would be vulnerable in times of food security crisis.
