War and Shipping Disruptions Push Coffee Prices Up by 40% in Iran
Mr. Mahjourian, Board Member of the Iranian Coffee Importers Association

Coffee prices in Iran have risen by 20% to 40% since the outbreak of the war. According to industry estimates, around 25% of the increase reflects higher global coffee prices, while the remaining 15% stems from soaring freight costs, rerouted import logistics, war-related risk premiums, and administrative bottlenecks.
Freight costs have surged by 600% to 700%, and shipping companies are now charging an additional $2,000 per container as a War Risk Surcharge. At the same time, delays in import registrations, uncertainty over foreign currency allocations, banking restrictions, and the disruption of the UAE transit route have severely affected coffee imports. Industry representatives warn that if these conditions persist, both coffee imports and per-capita consumption in Iran are likely to decline.
