Afra Makian Expands Smart Poultry Operations with Target of 1.4 Million Laying Hens
Seyed Ramezan Shojaei, Chief Executive Officer, Afra Makian Iranian Company

Afra Makian Iranian is undertaking a major modernization program aimed at transforming its operations into one of Iran’s largest and most advanced egg production facilities. Through phased investments in automation and modern poultry housing, the company plans to increase its production capacity to approximately 1.4 million laying hens, supporting higher efficiency and long-term food security.
A key element of the expansion is the introduction of fully automated multi-story poultry houses and modern egg packaging facilities equipped with domestically developed technologies. The company is also replacing older production units with high-capacity smart facilities designed to improve productivity while reducing labor requirements and operating costs.
Beyond poultry production, Afra Makian is investing in complementary infrastructure, including feed manufacturing and industrial poultry manure processing, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen its integrated value chain and improve operational sustainability.
Despite these investments, the egg industry continues to face challenges such as regulated pricing, limited access to working capital, feed supply constraints and export restrictions. The company views automation, technological innovation and integrated production systems as essential to enhancing competitiveness and supporting the sustainable growth of Iran’s poultry sector.
