Imam Khomeini Port Forecasted to Boost Essential Goods Handling Capacity by Year-End
Abutaleb Geraylou, the Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Khuzestan Province

He
announced that Imam Khomeini Port is projected to reach 45 million tons of cargo handling by the end of the year, up from 42 million tons last year. This port alone accounts for 70% of the country’s essential goods imports through Khuzestan, which hosts seven active commercial ports with a total nominal capacity of 71.4 million tons
Geraylou emphasized the importance of developing the container terminal and expanding the port’s capabilities beyond essential goods, including mineral, chemical, and general cargo. Since 2011, Imam Khomeini Port has been designated as a special economic zone spanning 11,000 hectares. The first phase of physical expansion, involving infrastructure development on 100 hectares, has commenced with a budget of 5 trillion rials allocated for the project.
