Barley Shortage Challenges Iran’s Livestock Industry Amid Import Tariff Adjustments
Afshin Sadr Dadras, CEO of the Light Livestock Union

Currently, the most important issue facing the livestock industry is the shortage of barley. This is while in the first half of the year, imported inputs are released to the market at very low prices and the domestic barley harvest season also coincides with the first half of the year.
Therefore, when domestically produced barley enters the market, its price drops completely and the decrease in barley prices causes farmers and producers to incur losses.
Hence, when domestic barley prices fall, the government should put two measures on its agenda: in the first step, it should increase the import tariff on commodities such as barley, and in the next step, it should advance the policy of guaranteed purchase of barley from farmers.
