Due to the fact that Iran is located in a hot and dry geographical position with low rainfall, it is required to supply some agricultural products such as livestock inputs through imports. However, non-allocation and provision of currency, mandated pricing and disconnection of Iran’s banking system to SWIFT are the most important challenges in the way of providing and distributing inputs. On the other hand, in some cases, the goods that have been deposited in customs, due to improper and long-term storage, may be spoiled, which can disrupt food security and public health.

In response to which of the government’s policies in the field of grain supply needs to be reviewed, he said: The import of grain to Iran has been one of the important actions of the government in recent years because Iran is currently facing a shortage of water resources. However, the existence of customs bureaucracies, the problems of currency allocation and mandatory pricing are among these policies that can be reviewed. The private sector is ready to buy grain, while the government companies that buy grain do not even have the silo to store these goods. Therefore, one of the ways to get out of the current situation in the supply and storage of grains is to entrust the affairs to the private sector.
