Amirabad Port on Track to Become a Rail Grain Hub; 77% Growth in Rail Cargo Transport

Mr. Mohammadali Mousapour, Director General of Amirabad Ports and Maritime Administration

Amirabad Port is advancing its rail transport strategy in line with Iran’s Seventh Development Plan, targeting a 25% share of rail-based cargo movement through investments in rail infrastructure and direct port-to-rail connectivity.

Rail cargo handling at the port has increased by 77% during the current year, although road transport still accounts for the majority of essential goods movement.

Expanding rail logistics is expected to reduce transport costs, fuel consumption, road congestion, and improve safety, while strengthening supply chain efficiency for essential commodities.

With an annual handling capacity exceeding 8 million tons, the port is equipped with grain silos, warehouses, and crude oil storage facilities, while additional expansion projects for storage and logistics terminals are underway.

Strategically located along the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Amirabad Port is increasingly positioned as a key hub for multimodal transport and regional transit.
