
- Yazdan Seif, GTC’s CEO: Iran’s wheat production in the current year would be 14 million tons which 11 million tons of wheat would be bought from the farmers by the government. He asserted that Iran’s self-sufficiency in wheat would continue in the coming years.
- Farshad Memarian, CEO of Tehran Bakhtar Flour, talking about Iran’s standards for wheat: Because when buying the wheat from farmers, the government does not pay attention to different factors such as the gluten and index number, it gets more difficult for the buyers to get a detailed profile of the wheat they are buying.
- Forooghi, GTC’s export office deputy: From January 2017, the start of selling wheat to wheat and flour traders, 270000 tons of wheat and 1000 tons of flour has been sold. From these amounts, 35000 tons has been exported to Oman and we hope to be able to export durum wheat to North African countries and Europe.
- Hossein Pour, CEO of GTC’s region 4: Iran is capable of exporting wheat to Persian Gulf countries and I hope that Khoozestan’s wheat would be a good choice for the buyers.
- Hossein Hadadi from Iran’s Cereal Science and Technology Association: After becoming self-sufficient in producing wheat, the government should pay more attention to other important grains being used in Iran. After wheat, rice is the most consumed grain in Iran, however, we are not self-sufficient in producing it. Iran imports more than a million ton of rice every year. Maize is another grain that we import great amounts of it every year, around 4.8 million tons. Reviewing self-sufficiency schemes should be done, because with proper management, Iran is capable of producing more rice and maize.
- Prodction Manager of Taban Flour on Buhler’s PesaMill: PesaMill uses a different method from roller mills in order to produce whole wheat flour. Whole wheat flour should contain 97 percent of wheat is in the wheat grain, therefore, for producing it you need very clean wheat.

- Ran recently exported 35000 tons of wheat to Oman. Merzad Jamshidi, Khoosheh Fars CEO bought the wheat from Iran’s government and sent the shipment from Imam Khomeini Port. Asking about why Oman was chosen as the first destination for Iran’s wheat, he replied: we tried to export Iran’s wheat to a country which has good ties with Iran and the banking system would not be very complicated. Muscat had had good ties with Tehran and the money transfer was easy.
