Import Payment Delays Raise Concerns over Iran’s Future Livestock Inputs Supplies

Mr. Hossein Asadi, CEO of Kharazmi Grain Trading Development Company

The CEO of a company active in importing animal feed ingredients has warned about the consequences of continued delays in settling payments owed to importers of essential commodities, stating that if current conditions persist, the country may face declining feed inventories and rising prices in the coming months.

He highlighted the critical role of the private sector in ensuring the continuous supply of essential goods, noting that industry participants have maintained import operations even under the most challenging economic and logistical conditions. However, increasing import costs, sudden regulatory changes, and delays in fulfilling financial obligations have placed significant pressure on importers.

It was further emphasized that the sector’s most pressing challenge is not limited to exchange-rate volatility. Rather, policy instability and delays in meeting financial commitments have made long-term planning and cooperation with international suppliers increasingly difficult.

The importance of developing alternative supply routes, strengthening logistics infrastructure, and providing effective support for the private sector was also stressed, with these measures described as essential for maintaining supply-chain resilience and safeguarding food security.

According to him, settling outstanding receivables owed to importers and improving access to financial resources could play a crucial role in preserving strategic reserves and preventing further increases in animal feed prices in the months ahead.
