High Air Cargo Costs in Iran: Need for Dedicated Fleet and Specialized Cargo Hubs

Mr. Kazemi, Senior Advisor of Saman Air Services Company

The biggest current constraints are the lack of dedicated cargo aircraft and the age of the existing fleet. A significant portion of cargo is still transported in the underbody space of passenger aircraft, which limits operational capacity and planning. Spare parts are difficult to procure and flight routes are limited. These factors make sustainable and reliable cargo planning very challenging.

Air freight costs in Iran are higher than in other countries in the region. This is due more to the inefficiency of the logistics chain than the flight itself. Long layovers, inadequate cargo consolidation, lengthy customs processes, and the lack of specialized hubs all contribute to the increase in the final price.
