Livestock Feed Import Challenges
Mr. Mohammadali Zeighami, Member of Iran Feed Grain Importers’ Union
Statistics on the country’s imports from ports in previous years indicate that about 90 percent of basic goods are imported from the country’s southern ports. However, in recent years, the share of imports through northern ports has increased, and now, depending on the type of goods, 25 to 35 percent of agricultural inputs are supplied through this route. This trend can be strengthened by developing logistics infrastructure, port equipment, and appropriate warehouses.
In no industry does the private sector provide long-term loans to the government, but we, the importers of livestock and poultry inputs, make a significant and commendable contribution to the country by providing the foreign exchange we need and delaying 10 to 11 months in receiving it from the government and providing the goods needed by the country.
