Warning of rising barley prices and shortages in the country

Mohammad Masoudi, CEO of Iranian National Feed Industry Federation

This year, more soybeans have been imported than the country needs. We still have corn in stock, but in the next two months we will probably face a challenge with corn as well, because the grain harvest in Russia has decreased and a 30% tariff will be applied to grain imports, so given that a significant part of the country’s needs come from the north, we must look for alternative markets. On the other hand, with the cold weather, the Volga River will freeze, and this will also be an additional reason. Accordingly, Kazakhstan and the CIS countries can be a good alternative for supplying the country with grain.

According to reports, the currency allocated for imports will increase to Rls. 380,000. However, the time of its implementation is not clear. Currently, the currency of other micronutrients is based on an agreed rate, which has led to tension in the market and the price of some micronutrients has increased by at least 40 to 50 percent.
