Important trends on Iran’s grain imports
Dr Najafi, CEO of Petkus in Iran has recently done his PhD thesis

- CEO of Golestan province’s Feed Guild: There are about 700 feed plants in Iran and only 400 of them have new and modern technology and the other plants are working with old and outdated equipment.
- 10% to 15% of the soybean and corn and 40% of the needed barley for feed are being grown in Iran and the rest is imported from Russia, Kazakhstan, Argentina, Brazil, Ukraine, The US and India. The best quality barley is imported from Russia and the best quality corn and soy are import ed from Argentina.
- Amir Hossein Ahmad Khanloo, CEO of Naan Avard Panik which is the presentative of Delifrance in Iran and is active in producing half-baked bread and pastries is concerned about the new policies of the government. The sanctions list contains 1400 items in which there are biscuits, wafers, coffee, chocolate and half-baked doughs. The government’s sudden policy for banning the import of these products is making private companies loss their investment. Maybe the better option would have been increasing the import tariffs of these products not banning their imports which is some hoe a self-inflicted sanction.
- Dr Najafi, CEO of Petkus in Iran has recently done his PhD thesis on the important trends on Iran’s grain imports. This valuable research has been done in one of Paris’s universities in Business Integration major.
- Hemmatian, the CEO of Dalfard company: Golfetto is going to equip Tavoni 213 flour mill. The flour mill which was severely damaged in the recent earthquake was given special prices from the Italy’s headquarter and the contract has been signed. Apart from this project, Dalfard has another contract with Khoosheh Fars Flour for 70,000 tons silo from Frame.
- CEO of Alborz Flour: The wheat sold to the flour mills do not meet the required standards and the commodity stock market is not able to guarantee the quality of the wheat. The flour mills cannot monitor the quality at the farm and it should be the commodity stock who takes care of the quality issues. There is also no clear way of receiving the complaints from the flour mills.
- Dr Shahbazi, CEO of Jahad Keshavarzi in Kermanshah: This year’s wheat quality is better than the previous year and this province has produced about 77,000 tons of wheat which are high in gluten.
- Dr Pasban, member of Agricultural Planning, Economic and Rural Development Research Institute: Germany, UAE and Kazakhstan have 47% share of the imported barley for feed in Iran. In the current year, 1914 tons of corn has been imported so far from Austria, Spain, Germany, UAE, UK, Brazil, China, Singapore, Sweden, Oman, Russian Federation, Cyprus and Netherlands. However, most of the feed corn has been imported from Switzerland which has got a 5.24 share of the Iran’s imported corn market. Majid Vafaiee, Technical Manager at Shahr Babana Company: Iran used to be very dependent on the other countries in cake and pastry formulations. These days Iran is more capable of cake formulations, however, we still need to use foreign equipment to have the best quality possible for producing cakes and pastries.
- Morad Afifipoor, head of Shahid Rajaee Economical Zone: In 2014-2015 a contract for a 100,000 MT silo to be installed in Shahid Rajaee port costing 208 billion IRR at that time, was signed and it will be operational soon. There is also a development plan for a loading and discharging terminal for minerals with 44,000,000 MT capacity which is being discussed now.
Hassan Abbassi Maroofan: The total wheat bought by government from the farmers until 9th August 2018 is 8,450,000 MT worth 112,200,000 IRR from which 51% has been paid to the farmers. We expect to buy more than 9,000,000 MT of wheat this year. - CEO of Sistan Baluchestan GTC: Regarding years of dry weather, Sistan Baluchestan province is on the verge severe drought and consequently, there has been a 59% decrease in the wheat sales this year.
- The 17th International exhibition on sweets and chocolate will be held between 15 to 18 September in Tehran.
- Intermilling company is one of the pioneer companies in producing flour mills equipment and they had recently introduced one-way mills which has been very popular in Europe.
