Pilot Operation of Afra One-Million-Ton Sugar Refinery in Fajr Decade

Mr. Abdollahi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afra Sweet Holding

Novin Khalij Fars” Sugar Company, with heavy foreign exchange and rial investment, is constructing and implementing a raw sugar refining plant with an annual capacity of one million tons on a 20-hectare land in the Special Economic Zone of Imam Khomeini Port.

This plant, with the aim of processing imported or domestic raw sugar, has an extensive plan to produce white and refined sugar, and entering export markets and having a sustainable presence in them is also planned as part of future and post-production goals. The pilot operation of the first phase of this project with a capacity of 500,000 tons is targeted for the Fajr decade of this year.

The production capacity of the confectionery and chocolate industries in the country is more than $3 billion per year, currently less than $1 billion of this capacity is used, and economic logic requires that the excess capacity be allocated to exports. This is while the obstacles and problems imposed on the country’s foreign trade, the lack of sustainable access to export markets, the restrictions resulting from the implementation of laws related to the removal of foreign exchange obligations, etc., have prevented the country’s production and trade sectors from taking advantage of this excess capacity.
