Geographical Diversification: The Key to Grain Supply Chain Resilience Amid Logistical Challenges and Regulatory Stability

Mr. Javad Asadi, CEO of Zarrin Grain Company

The shift in transit routes and the increasing utilization of northern ports and the North-South corridor, alongside reducing dependence on traditional origins, have exposed significant infrastructure challenges such as draft limitations for large vessels, a shortage of mechanized silos, and transportation bottlenecks that risk cargo dwell times and demurrage costs.

Although Eurasia and CIS countries offer a favorable capacity for diversifying grain procurement sources, true supply chain sustainability can only be achieved by avoiding reliance on a single geographic region. Meanwhile, financing challenges, prolonged foreign exchange allocation processes, and high bank facility interest rates severely squeeze the liquidity of importing companies and threaten their profit margins. To overcome these obstacles and safeguard food security, the private sector requires smart regulation, reduced bureaucratic friction, and economic decision-making stability, allowing for optimized utilization of trade capacities to strengthen national resilience through coordination between the central bank and the ministry of agriculture.
