€50 Million Government Debt to Legume Importers
Davoud Lopehchi, Head of the Legume Association

Approximately 60% of the country’s legume consumption is supplied through domestic production. The impact of rising exchange rates on imported legumes will be reflected in this segment with some delay.
However, for the remaining 40% that is imported, price increases will be clearly noticeable in the coming months.
The government’s debt to legume importers—resulting from the shift from the first currency allocation system to the second—is estimated at around €50 million. Under these circumstances, importers’ working capital has been cut in half, while their previous debts have also increased. Despite this situation, the government has not yet taken effective measures to provide working capital support for this sector, and the outstanding payments related to the 28,500-toman exchange rate have still not been settled.
