Clearance Challenges at Al-Ruwais Port, Qatar: Addressing Grain Trade Obstacles to Boost Iranian Exports

Mr. Mirani, Board Member of the Iran-Qatar Chamber of Commerce

Despite the high potential for exporting food, fruits, and vegetables from Iran to the Al-Ruwais Port, which accounts for more than 80 percent of our country’s exports to Qatar, there are serious obstacles to developing trade with this Persian Gulf country.

Al-Ruwais Port does not impose any restrictions on the entry of Iranian goods. The main problems arise from Iranian exporters’ unfamiliarity with Qatar’s customs and quality laws and standards, which leads to the halt and problems with some exported goods.

Exports to Qatar should not be compared to exports to countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The Qatari market demands the same quality as developed markets such as the US and Europe and requires compliance with high standards in quality and packaging.
