Amirabad and Anzali Ports; Accepting ships with a volume of 5,000 tons
Mr. Mohammadali Zeighami, Vice President of Iran Feed Grain Importers’ Union

Many of the active ships in the Caspian Sea are old and are not in proper condition in terms of volume and weight calibration; In such a way that the weight of the goods may have many discrepancies during loading and unloading, which causes problems for importers in the discussion of clearing foreign exchange obligations in the banking and customs system.
Of course, in the Caspian Sea, due to their age and shape, the ships used need a high intake, and this is the reason why they cannot be docked in all the northern ports of the country. The maximum weight of goods transported by old ships is currently between 3 and 5 thousand tons, and 5 thousand ton ships can dock only in Amirabad and Anzali ports, and other northern ports only accept 3 thousand ton ships. Of course, newly produced ships with a wider structure and lower height can carry more than 7 thousand tons of cargo.
Wasting foreign exchange resources of the country due to the lack of up-to-date docks and port equipment
The vice president said about the clearance of goods from the country’s ports: Unfortunately, most of the southern ports are very old, and in Imam Khomeini Port, as the main port for the entry of bulk goods, the number of active and usable berths at the same time is limited due to the old port equipment. This issue has caused many of them to wait for the arrival of the ships at the same time to dock and enter the unloading docks, and finally we see the demurrage of these ships, which is very large and irreparable and must be paid from the country’s foreign exchange resources.
Unfortunately, these conditions and the lack of up-to-date docks and port equipment impose significant additional costs on traders and importers, which must be paid in foreign currency, which is very heavy considering the importance of the country’s foreign exchange resources and it is necessary to make necessary planning and investment to update the docks and port equipment and develop the main ports.
