50% of Wheat Seeds Consumed in the Country Have Been Improved
Mr. Sirvan Ardalanzadeh, Secretary of the Iranian Seed Producers Association

The lack of liquidity is one of the most important problems in the seed industry, because due to the sanctions, the increase in the price of raw materials and the growth in the price of wheat, the amount of liquidity in the seed sector has decreased drastically.
Also, issues such as not allocating facilities in the right amount and at the right time and not paying seed subsidies on time, the category of tax, brokerage insurances and monitoring breeding farms are another part of the current challenges of this industry.
Iran needs about 1.2 million tons of seeds in the field of irrigated and dry lands; but only about 500,000 tons of seeds are produced in the country, which unfortunately has reached 400,000 to 450,000 in the last two years, and about 50% of the seeds used are modified and labeled.
Currently, we have 5 classes of seeds, including breeding, type one, breeding two, breeding three, original and certified. Farmers who use these 5 seed classes, their yields are about 30-50% higher than wheat farmers who use their own seeds.
