Since the start of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the Russian government has consistently implemented a system of weekly export duties and imposed export quota restrictions in the second half of the crop year. These policies have directly affected the calculations of global importers and have played a significant role in their decision-making.<\/p>\n

The main focus in the Russian market is on wheat. As the world wheat market leader, the country has a significant influence on supply and demand. Increasing export duties and imposing restrictions, especially at times when supply from other producers is challenging, can cause severe fluctuations in the world market. However, experience has shown that Russian policies are designed to minimize the loss of market share. By maintaining competitiveness in price and quality, Russia has been able to continue to secure a significant share in major global tenders and manage its key markets. These measures have a profound impact on world prices, especially during periods when the supply balance in the world market is disrupted. Importers are also forced to reconsider their supply strategies, given the constant changes in Russian export policies.<\/p>\n

Exchange rate fluctuations, especially in countries like Russia, have a direct impact on the competitiveness of grain exports. A weakening of the ruble against the dollar (as is currently the case with the ruble to the dollar exchange rate above 100) could create more competitive conditions for Russian exporters. This is because Russian producers and exporters calculate their costs in domestic currency but export in dollars, which makes their prices more attractive on the world market.<\/p>\n
