Wheat Price Revision for 1404: Strategic Move to Prevent Large-Scale Imports
Mr. Ahmad Haghpazhouh, Senior Advisor to the Iranian Chamber of Agricultural Trades

Given the drastic changes in the aforementioned indicators over the past 8 months, the Pricing Council is required by law to review the rates. Because all the items affecting pricing have changed, and if farmers are dissatisfied and prices are not reviewed, the country will be forced to import significant amounts of wheat next year, as farmers’ willingness to cultivate wheat will definitely decrease.
To achieve self-sufficiency, we need separate and advanced planning, because 85 percent of the country’s agricultural exploitation units are subsistence and small-scale, and achieving self-sufficiency with this exploitation system will be very difficult. Therefore, in the macro-management of the agricultural sector and based on the country’s legal capacities, we are developing a strategic plan to increase the self-sufficiency coefficient by creating major centers and hubs for the production of basic products in the country’s susceptible areas, while ensuring the welfare and support of dear farmers along with reforming the cultivation pattern.
